Text-to-speech tools have been a great advance in accessibility when using a computer or a cell phone, particularly for those who need adapted technology due to a disability. Talk It! is one of such technologies, albeit with a much more playful approach.

Read any text aloud with a different voice

This is a tool with a very basic and functional design, designed more for children than to solve more serious situations where a text-to-speech program is required. This is perhaps what makes it more fun, as it allows users to customize the user experience with a wide range of voices.

It is very easy to use: there is a box in the interface where you can enter the text manually or, if you prefer, open a text file (TXT format) and copy it immediately. Once this is done, all you have to do is pick what type of voice you want and adjust other parameters such as speed, pitch, and language; it can read both English and Spanish. Well, actually it can read anything, but only these two languages have tone and pronunciation.

These are its main features:

  • Enter the text manually or from a TXT file.
  • Select the reading voice among twenty different ones: man, woman, child, nerd, old woman, imaginary man, robot, fly, person singing...
  • Choose between different vocal efforts.
  • Different intonations.
  • Manually adjust both the pitch and reading speed.

The best text-to-speech tool for Windows? Obviously not, as it is very rudimentary and was designed quite a few years ago. However, it will work without any problem on your PC, you don't need to know anything to use it, and it may provide you with some fun moments, especially for the little ones in the house.
