XMPP or Jabber is an open-source instant messaging protocol used by companies of the likes of WhatsApp, Facebook or Google to develop their chat apps. Apart from these apps, it can also be used with other chat clients, such as Xabber for instance, which is specially designed to use Jabber on Android.
